RÉAPPROPRIONS-NOUS LE BÂTIMENT NO.7!

Le Centre social autogéré (CSA) a terminé son hibernation depuis son expulsion d’un bâtiment de la rue St-Patrick le 30 mai 2009. Nous nous lançons aujourd’hui dans une nouvelle offensive en vue de se doter d’un lieu permanent pour y réaliser des activités alternatives et autogérées selon les principes déjà adoptés par le CSA.

Ce lieu c’est le Bâtiment no. 7.

Ce bâtiment de 100 000 pieds carrés situé sur les terrains du CN fait partie du patrimoine collectif de Pointe-Saint-Charles. Nous considérons qu’il nous appartient à toutes et tous. En 2005, Vincent Chiara et sa compagnie le Groupe Mach se sont emparés de ce bâtiment et des terrains dans leur ensemble pour la somme faramineuse de 1$. Depuis plus d’un an, un comité de citoyen.nes et de groupes du quartier tente de convaincre le propriétaire de céder le bâtiment no. 7 à la communauté afin qu’on puisse y installer le CSA, mais aussi d’autres initiatives sociales et culturelles.

Le propriétaire doit nous céder ce bâtiment, remis aux normes et ce, avant l’adoption du projet de développement des terrains du CN par la Ville d’ici septembre 2010. Si on se fie au rapport de l’OCPM, ce don est un fait accompli : « les participants se réjouissent du fait que le bâtiment no. 7 sera reconverti et servira entre autres à la mise sur pied d’activités artistiques, culturelles et communautaires » (1). Mais ce n’est pas le cas.

Le CSA propose une stratégie d’action pour mettre la main définitivement sur ce bâtiment. Cette stratégie implique une gradation des moyens de pression pouvant aller jusqu’à des actions de désobéissance civile et d’occupation du bâtiment.

The destiny of the CN site is in our hands

PUBLIC ASSEMBLY OF THE ASC

The hibernation period of the Autonomous Social Center (ASC), which began
following the eviction from its St. Patrick building on May 30th 2009, is
over. We are now launching our new offensive to get a permanent space to
hold our alternative and autonomous activities according to the principles
previously adopted by the ASC

This space is the Building No. 7.

This 100,000 square foot building, situated on the CN site, is part of
Point St. Charles’ collective heritage. We consider that this building
belongs to all of us. In 2005, Vincent Chiara and his company the Mach
Group took possession of this building along with the rest of the land for
a measly dollar. For over a year now, a citizens’ committee has been
trying to convince the owner to cede the Building No. 7 to the community
so that we can house the ASC, but also a number of other social and
cultural initiatives.

The owner must hand over this building, renovated to meet security
standards, before the City adopts the project to develop the CN site
sometime between now and September 2010. If we rely on what is written in
the report of the OCPM, this donation is a fait accompli: “The
participants are thrilled by the fact that the Building No. 7 will be
reconverted and will house, among other things, artistic, cultural and
community activities” (1). This, however, has yet to materialize.

The ASC proposes an action strategy that aims to win this building. This
strategy involves a gradation of tactics that includes civil disobedience
and, if it comes to that, an occupation of the building.
